Reading: Students in grades 1 through 5 are eligible for Title 1 help in reading during the small group time. Classroom teachers and other specialists in our school have small groups of students who have similar reading ability.  During the 40 minutes of instruction, students receive intensive reading instruction of skills and strategies that all students in the Hastings Public Schools receive.

Math:  Students in grades 1 through 5 are eligible for Title 1 help in math during the guided practice part of the classroom math instruction.  A small group of students have the opportunity to receive 40 minutes of instruction or guidance while completing this work.  Students also are able to take their assessments in the small group setting.  Some students need help in reading the math assessment at that time.

Intervention:  Students who are at risk in reading are assigned to an intervention group.  We have not started formal intervention groups at this time.
